2012 Planned Races
This was a fun way to kick off the new year and the new me. I'll absolutely be back next year! It wasn't snowing so that was a huge plus! The only down side was that when I got to the finish line there was a huge back up of racers waiting to cross and I litterally had to stand there for more than two minutes to actually walk across the finish line.
February 18th: First annual Run to Chocolate
A fun 2 mile Jaunt with a chocolate reward at the end. Showing some support for the Fairfax, VT Athletic Department! (I was invited to do this by a friend through a Facebook event page so I don’t have an actual web page for the race.)
March 24th: Spring Fling 2012 5k/10k
This race follows a
scenic country out-and-back route. The 5K is relatively flat, whereas the 10K
has some hills. I haven’t decided if I’ll complete the 5 or 10k as it’s on a
training day where I’m supposed to do 3 miles. I know the 5k would be perfect for
my schedule but there is a loud voice in my head telling me to do the 10k. I’ll
see where I am in my half marathon training, as that’s about the half way mark,
and decide later as the date approaches. April 14th: 6th Annual Half Marathon Unplugged: No Frills, No Hills!
“This
event is an organized, basic services running event. You won't see 30,000
spectators like the KBVCM,
or hear bands along the way, but you WILL experience a scenic, very flat, half
marathon race along with 599 of your running friends.” -RunVermont
This is the Race that
I’m currently training for and although I think I’m being overly ambitious, I’m
so excited to try!! I absolutely cannot wait for this!May 5th: RaceVermont.com Half Marathon
”The course will run
you through some of the area’s most picturesque scenery including a portion of
Shelburne Farms, the historic Ti Trail and along Shelburne Bay”-Racevemont.com
If I’m up to doing it again, then I look forward to running this course!

However, If I want a
longer break before taking on another half than I’ve picked out this race as a
backup for the month of May:
May 6th: Champlain Classic 5k/15k
This is a
race I’ve heard about for a very long time in the next town over from mine. If
I do participate in this one it will be nice to say that I’ve done it. “The
proceeds from the Champlain Classic will support funding of the Shelburne Trail
and Greenway Network. This growing network of paths will connect existing
trails to other Shelburne Recreation facilities.”

(Please
note, this website is still reflecting information from last year’s race. I
hope it will be updated soon as the race approaches)
June 9th: Girls on the Run VT 5k
Super
excited for this!!! I’ll be coaching a GOTR team at the middle school that I
went to. It’s a 10 week program and will end with an untimed 5k that the girls
can walk, skip, jump, hop, dance or run their way to the finish line. “Girls on
the Run© is a non-profit program that encourages girls in grades 3-8 to develop
self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Our curricula address all
aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental, and social
well-being.” GOTRVT

June
30th: 10th Annual Milton Freedom 5k
This is an easy, breezy 5k race in the
evening that I am hoping to get a new personal record on. “Milton's Freedom 5K
seeks to provide the greater Milton community with a fun, laid back race that
promotes not only the physical benefits of running, but also the camaraderie
developed when a group of people sweat together to achieve a common goal. 100
percent of the proceeds go to the Milton Track and Cross Country Remembrance
Scholarship” July 7th: LoziLu Boston
It’s
a 5k MUD RUN!!!! “With 10-12 obstacles on snaking dirt trails there is never a
dull moment during LoziLu. Tire piles, wall climbs, and ladders create a bit of
a challenge with balance beams, rope maze and a giant slip 'n slide to turn up
the fun! Each obstacle requiring strength or courage is creatively crafted to
be accessible to a variety of fitness levels, and every obstacle is optional if
your nerves get the best of you.” Lozilu.com
I’m
super excited for this as it will check off one of my goals for 2012. I expect
to be going down to Boston with a few other women so I have a feeling this will
turn into an awesome girl’s weekend!
August
26th: 4th Annual Zoe’s Race
5k at Oakledge
park in Burlington, VT. “The idea for the 5K race was sparked when Erika
Nestor began a remodeling project to make her home accessible for her daughter
Zoe. Zoe, who is now 8 years old, is in a wheelchair as a result of a near
drowning accident when she was 18 months old. During this process Erika was
surprised to learn that there were very limited funds available to assist
families with remodeling costs related to accessibility. The Howard Center’s
“Zoe’s Race” is a 1K fun run and 5K race to raise funds for Vermont families
who are in need of creating accessible homes for their children.”
This event
benefits the VT National Guard Fallen Soldier Memorial at Camp Johnson in
Colchester, VT. I will remember those I’ve known and don’t know who have proudly
served our country. http://www.runvermont.org/page.php?pid=58&pname=vermont_remembers
This is a wonderful side of my daughter that I'm starting to get to know....you have always been such an inspiring, fasinating, thoughtful and inique individual. I want to grow up and be just like you! I love you, Mom
